What to see and do

Lletty Cottage is in the heart of Carmarthenshire (Drover’s Country) and is the perfect base for exploring the area from the front door.

Nearby walks lead through the beautiful countryside, with views over the stunning Brecon Beacons,with Red Kites and Buzzards flying overhead.

The charming church of St. Sadwrn lies in the centre of Llansadwrn village adjacent to The Sexton's Arms where you will get a very warm welcome and where food is served Friday to Sunday. In Llanwrda village one and a half miles away there is a general store, garage, pub and café open all hours.

Two miles away is the delightful Welsh village of Llangadog with a post office and Country Stores and the award-winning Red Lion Inn

Trains to Shrewsbury and Swansea run from Llangadog on the Heart of Wales line. The line is renowned for its passage through dramatic mid-Wales scenery and many interesting stopping stations.

The Gwili Steam Railway and the Brecon Moutain Railway are also well worth a visit.


Its verdant rolling landscapes and headlining horticultural attractions have led to Carmarthenshire being known as the "Garden of Wales", and the nearby gardens of Aberglasney a 'Garden Lost in Time' and the National Botanic Garden are outstanding and fascinating places to visit with their wealth of history and range of plants.


Carmarthenshire has a truly historic landscape with many local castles such as the spectacularly-sited Carreg Cennan, Dryslwyn and Llanstephan all within easy driving distance from Lletty Cottage.

Dinefwr Castle and Park can be found on the outskirts of Llandeilo, a picturesque 'boutique' town on the edge of the National Park, with an interesting mix of designer shops, restaurants and galleries, all just ten minutes away from Lletty Cottage.

Other nearby National Trust properties are Llanerchaeron, Dolaucothi Gold Mines, Colby Woodland Garden, Abereiddi to Abermawr, and the Tudor Merchant's House in Tenby.

Stretching over 450 acres on the Burry Inlet near Llanelli, the National Wetland Centre Wales is a magnificent mosaic of lakes, pools and lagoons and is home to countless wild species plus over 650 of the world's most spectacular ducks, geese, swans and flamingoes- many so tame that they feed from your hand.

Dinas Bird Reserve (and nearby Llyn Brianne reservoir) is the place to discover the beauty of the Welsh oakwoods with resident red kites, ravens and peregrines, and summer-visiting pied flycatchers, redstarts, wood warblers and tree pipits (and red squirrels if you're very lucky).

The Pendine Museum of Speed has racing motorcycles and the rebuilt Parry Thomas land speed record car "Babs".

The Pembrey Country Park near Llanelli is a renowned attraction providing a unique blend of coast and countryside.
